TRUCK FALLS INTO CREEK FROM I-44, 3 INJURED
APRIL 27, 2024
Three people plummeted 50 feet into a creek bed after the truck and trailer they were driving left the roadway shortly before 1:00 p.m. three miles West of Mt Vernon.
Multiple agencies assisted with the rescue efforts including Mercy Life Line transporting one passenger by helicopter. Two other passengers were transported by ambulance, all in serious condition.
Trooper Adam Poulson with the Missouri State Highway Patrol stated the vehicle was travelling Eastbound on I-44 when the vehicle left the roadway, entering the median just before the bridge crossing.
Rescue efforts were challenged with steep terrain and running water, however a privately maintained creek access point was conveniently located within 300' of the scene allowing expedited access to all three patients.
