HEAT LAMP SPARKS BARN FIRE

FEBRUARY 19, 2025 - LAWRENCE Co, MO

Fire broke out from a heat lamp that was meant to protect a pen of goats in the frigid overnight temperatures.

Aurora Rural Fire and Marionville City Fire responded to the fire in the 23400 block of Lawrence 2200 and extinguished the fire on the exterior side of a large barn before too many animals were critically affected. A veterinarian also responded to check on the well-being of all the animals.

Although heat lamps are a common way to keep animals warm through the winter months, they are also a very common cause of fires. Fire officials on scene emphasized the importance of using extra caution with all types of auxiliary heating devices.
