CALF RESCUE STARTS BRUSH FIRE

Monett Rural Fire District responded to a 2-acre grass fire today just North of Hwy 60, West of W. Crestwood Dr.
Upon arrival, the initial size up reported about 1 acre slowly spreading to the South. An adjacent corn field was threatened by the slow-moving fire but was not affected.
Responding units quickly knocked down the forward flank with two brush trucks before working hot-spots within the burned areas.
One witness on scene reported that a calf had been stuck in a round-bale feeder and the owner used a grinder or a torch to get the calf out which likely caused the fire, however the official cause has not been stated by investigators.
