MONETT RURAL FIGHTS
5 FIRES IN 12 HOURS
SEPTEMBER 18, 2026 - MONETT, MO
Burn bans continue as firefighters in the Monett-area fought 5 fires in 12 hours today. In addition there were multiple motor vehicle accidents and medical calls keeping local crews extra busy throughout the day. In all, crews responded to 4 vegetation fires, 1 structure fire, 2 motor vehicle accidents and multiple medical and service calls.
Fire Chiefs from around the region continue to warn that any burning comes with extreme risk. Even with potential rain in the future, the amount of rain needed to recover from the drought is not likely to be seen soon. It is expected that burn bans throughout Southwest Missouri will continue.
It is advised that you prevent any potential for ignition risks. Common sources include but are not limited to outdoor cooking, smoking, farm machinery, dragging trailer chains and disposal of chemicals.
